E.ON Volunteers Help Transform Coventry School
More than 60 willing volunteers from E.ON’s Corporate Affairs team spent three days transforming the playground and school library at Limbrick Wood Primary School in Coventry.
The team created a sand pit and seaside area for the children to enjoy as well as painting a mural on the playground wall to brighten up the area. They also created plots for the children to grow their own vegetables, and re-painting games on the playground floor so they can be seen and used again.
On top of that, the volunteers re-decorated the school library, to make it a bright learning environment for the children by painting the bookcases and doors in bright colours and adding murals to the walls.
The front of the school was also given a more inviting look for both the children and their parents. The team built a bench and placed colourful flowerpots in front of the garden area.
Nigel Read, Headteacher at Limbrick Wood Primary School, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to the whole team on the great work that they’ve done on the school as part of this team challenge. My goodness what a difference it has made, both the children and staff think it’s amazing.”
Naomi Webb, Employee Involvement Officer at E.ON, said: “The challenge at Limbrick Wood Primary School was fantastic. The amount of work the team achieved over the three days has been amazing and it’s made even better when you hear the children’s positive comments.
“Limbrick Wood Primary School means a lot to E.ON and it is great that we can have such a huge impact on the school and the pupils.”
E.ON finds volunteering opportunities for employees across the UK, working with schools, older people and other vulnerable groups as part of its wider community relations programme. In 2010, E.ON employees spent almost 7,000 hours volunteering in their local communities.
Across Europe, E.ON’s employees are supporting the European Commission and UN 2011 European Year of Volunteering through the company’s volunteering programmes.
