The 10th Hour 08.19.11: Top 10 Innovations

Welcome to 10 hours. This week, I'm a little busy, so instead of going with something that requires much research and time as last week, I'll go with something easy. My 10 favorite innovations in video games for such a thing came to exist. There have been many innovations over the years, some better than others, so here are the ten that I prefer. 10. More Buttons: Seriously guys, do you remember when we had a stick and two buttons? (Atari 2600). Obviously the games at the time were limited because we did not have much power behind every console, things like graphics, sound and AIwere not as developed as they are now and other things. But for me, the games have improved with more buttons. The pad 6 buttons to Genesis opens us to complete arcade style fighting game Street Fighter, as without the need to press Start to change between the kicks and punches. Triggers (which originated with the buttons mounted on the shoulder on the SNES) has made our FPS-game much easier. Of course, with more buttons are more controllers and the need for developers to find the most ergonomically efficient investment to say the buttons, but I do not go below the buttons is good for games. 9.Motion Controls: Love them or hate them, I think motion controls are here to stay. Personally, I hate them .... But perhaps because it is so early in their development that we have not seen their true potential yet. Maybe in 20 years (hell, make 10!) Analog Sticks: Anyone who has played a racing game, air combat game and the shooter knows that the stick is where it is. Returning to the D-pad (except for fighting games, beat-em-up and a few puzzle games) seems unrealistic. The degree and fluidity of movement with the sticks are much better. Many people point to the stick controller of the Nintendo 64 as one of the greatest innovations, which led to the Dual Shock and the twins stick format has become the norm. Not only will it make you more productive, but it will also make life much more fun and interesting.
