State Police: Taxi Drivers Refused To Take Disabled Customer With Dog At ...
Two taxi drivers were arrested Tuesday morning after police said they refused to take a disabled customer with a seeing-eye dog at Bradley International Airport, then remained in the pick-up queue after being asked repeatedly to leave.
Police said that drivers Mansoor Ahmad, 24, and Naveed Ashfaq Ahmad, 50, who are father and son, both refused to take the customer, a blind man with a seeing-eye dog, when he attempted to take catch a cab at the airport just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.
According to state law, it is illegal to deny a blind, deaf or mobility-impaired person or his or her assistance dog access to any mode of public transportation or public accommodation which offers its services to the general public.
Police said that the taxi drivers, both East Windsor residents, were told that they would need to leave the starter line after they refused the disabled man service, but neither man would leave the line.
An airport manager then asked both men to leave the line again, according to police, and the men continued to refuse.
Police said that Naveed Ahmad then called 911 to voice his displeasure at being asked to leave the line. After refusing subsequent state police commands to leave the pick-up line, the men were arrested.
Mansoor Ahmad has been charged with denying access to public transportation/accommodations to guide/assistance dogs and interfering with an officer.
Naveed Ahmad has been charged denying access to public transportation/accommodations to guide/assistance dogs, interfering with an officer and misuse of the emergency 911 system.
Both men were released on a promise to appear in court in Enfield on June 20.

Massachusetts Pet Owner Says Disabled Dog's Wheelchair Was Stolen ...
It doesn’t get more heartless than this.
Someone appears to have stolen a wheelchair from a disabled dog in West Roxbury, Massachusetts.
The dog’s owner, Dave Feeney said that on Sunday someone took the device that helps his 12-year-old Belgian Shepherd “Lucky” get around. Lucky was reportedly left without the use of his hind legs after being hit by a car a few years ago.
Feeney says that the chair disappeared from his front yard. He also said that it wasn’t trash day and that it was “obvious” that the device was meant for a disabled dog.
“For somebody to do this, they knew what they were doing,” Feeney says.
Police say they’re looking into the incident.
Thankfully however, Lucky’s story does have a happy ending thanks to a New Hampshire-based company.
HandicappedPets.com has donated a new adjustable chair to Lucky that costs between $400 and $500.
Spokeswoman Lisa-Marie Mulkern says the company wanted to do anything it could “to right a wrong.
