Coast Guard calls off search for possible plane crash at sea off Flagler
The Coast Guard discontinued a search off Flagler County this morning after no evidence was found of a possible flaming plane crash.
No wreckage was found and there are no reports of missing aircraft or military maneuvers in the area where a crash was reported to have been seen, Coast Guard Petty Officer Jessica Potter said.
What appeared to be a crash was reported around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday by a patron of a restaurant who believed something fell into the ocean about three miles offshore from Flagler Beach. Potter said there was a second report, also that something red was seen dropping into the ocean.
A Coast Guard cutter and airplane searched the area until 5 a.m. then the cutter returned at 6:45 this morning, Potter said. The search was stopped at 8:30 a.m., she said.
After an extensive search, no debris or other evidence of a crash was found, she said.

Is an adult course involving exploration of the major theological doctrines of the Christian faith. Participants are encouraged to bring their questions and openness to talk about matters of faith and life.
The first session of the study will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church at 303 Palm Coast Parkway, NE. Each session will be approximately 90 minutes. This 9-session study will conclude on Nov. 9.
The only cost associated with this course is the cost of the study book. The book is published by Augsburg Fortress and sells for $13.
Registration by Sept. 5 is requested so that enough copies of the book can be ordered in advance. Participants will receive their book at the first session. The course book by the same name is written as a conversation in order to invite reader’s to “jump into” the conversation; the text stimulates the reader’s thinking instead of attempting to persuade a particular point of view. The book is written as a single narrative. The Rev. Dr. David Lose is the author of the book. Lose is the Marbury E. Anderson Chair in Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.
The Rev. Pam Northrup, pastor at St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church, will facilitate the study group. Pastor Pam, as she likes to be called, earned her M.Div. from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C., where she graduated with honors. She also holds an M.Ed. from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, where she focused on adult education.
