Olympic Steel Stock Downgraded (ZEUS)

NEW YORK ( TheStreet ) -- Olympic Steel (Nasdaq: ZEUS ) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from buy to hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its impressive record of earnings per share growth, compelling growth in net income and robust revenue growth. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including a generally disappointing performance in the stock itself and poor profit margins. Highlights from the ratings report include: ZEUS has underperformed the S&P 500 Index, declining 9.68% from its price level of one year ago. Looking ahead, we do not see anything in this company's numbers that would change the one-year trend. It was down over the last twelve months; and it could be down again in the next twelve. Naturally, a bull or bear market could sway the movement of this stock. The gross profit margin for OLYMPIC STEEL INC is rather low; currently it is at 20.20%. It has decreased from the same quarter the previous year. Along with this, the net profit margin of 2.70% significantly trails the industry average. Despite currently having a low debt-to-equity ratio of 0.33, it is higher than that of the industry average, inferring that management of debt levels may need to be evaluated further. The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Metals & Mining industry. The net income increased by 144.2% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, rising from $3.25 million to $7.95 million. OLYMPIC STEEL INC reported significant earnings per share improvement in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. The company has demonstrated a pattern of positive earnings per share growth over the past year. We feel that this trend should continue. This trend suggests that the performance of the business is improving. During the past fiscal year, OLYMPIC STEEL INC turned its bottom line around by earning $0.20 versus -$5.63 in the prior year. This year, the market expects an improvement in earnings ($2.49 versus $0.20). Olympic Steel, Inc. engages in the processing and distribution of carbon, coated, aluminum and stainless steel, flat-rolled sheet, and coil and plate products in the United States. The company has a P/E ratio of 23.3, above the average wholesale industry P/E ratio of 23.1 and above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Olympic has a market cap of $249 million and is part of the services sector and wholesale industry. Shares are down 21.3% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday. Everything Business » Aluminum Bending Made Easy With a Siding Brake

Aluminum coil stock is the common solution for maintenance free fascia, window, and door trim covering. Because all homes are designed differently, constructing this material requires a siding brake . This is a must have for a siding contractor as well as a window replacement contractor. Some fascia metals can be bought in pre-manufactured sizes and modified to fit a home’s roof edge, but door and window trim must be bent-to-fit.

Most contractors who do this type of construction prefer to bend these custom pieces on-site. It is simply not practical to calculate every necessary bend and perform this work in a metal shop. The solution is the siding brake, because it allows a contractor to set this aluminum bending tool up near the work that is being performed and make the pieces as needed.

The standard design of this tool permits a contractor to bend aluminum coil stock in lengths up to 10’6’’ long and this allows for a minimum of material overlap and seams. The quality of the bend is what someone might expect from the stationary equipment used in fabrication shops. With the additional accessories that are available, there is few metal fabrication tasks that cannot be achieve with this equipment.

For long term fascia, window, and door trim, aluminum coil stock is the best solution. This eliminates the need to scrape and paint wood surfaces every few years and also protects the rough building materials from moisture and weathering. The scope of possible shapes and sizes for these pieces makes it impossible for a manufacturer to stock all of the possibilities. This means that they have to be constructed on-site and at a quality that would be found in a metal shop. The only way to accomplish these requirements is through the use of a metal siding brake.
