Top 10 consumers complaints
Protect yourself 1. Check the track record. Consult your state or local consumer agency, the Better Business Bureau, and online complaint forums.
2. Hire licensed professionals, if licensing applies.
3. Pay the safest way with a credit card so you can dispute the charges if you don't get what you were promised.
4. Use gift cards, gift certificates and coupons promptly.
5. Don't pay in full upfront. If you are asked for a deposit, pay a small amount, never the full price upfront.
6. Be suspicious of any requests to wire money; scare tactics or pressure to act immediately; promises that you can borrow, win or make money easily if you pay a fee in advance; unexpected requests for your personal information; and offers to recover money that you've lost to scammers, for a fee.
7. Get all promises in writing. Oral agreements are hard to prove. Carefully read contracts.
8. Seek help for financial problems from legitimate sources. If you're struggling to pay your bills, try to work out a solution directly with your creditors. If that's unsuccessful, get real help, such as from a nonprofit credit counseling service.
9. Under federal law, you have the right to dispute debts you don't owe, and many states prohibit action to collect debts after a certain number of years.
10. When in doubt, check it out. If you're not sure what your rights are or you think that something might be fishy, ask your state or local consumer agency for advice.

Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus toured the new Adams Fairacre Farm location on Route 9 in the Town of Wappinger to get an update on the store’s construction progress. The County Executive was joined by representatives from the Dutchess County Economic Developmental Corporation (DCEDC) and the Dutchess County Industrial Development Agency (DCIDA) as well as local media.
The new Adams store, the company’s fourth location in the Hudson Valley, will be approximately 70,000 square feet and is expected to open on or about November 1st in time for the holiday season. According to Stephen Adams, the new location is similar in size to current Adams store locations in Poughkeepsie and Newburgh. The store is expected to employ approximately 200 people in a mix of full and part-time positions.
“This new Adams store will certainly be a ‘destination’ location,” said County Executive Steinhaus. “The Adams’ family has built a strong, positive reputation in our community and it is terrific to see them expand and grow into the southern Dutchess area.”
Customers can expect to see all of the same departments as found in current Adams store locations including produce, cheese, bakery, deli, meat, seafood on the grocery end, in addition to the garden center and nursery. The produce department continues to be the main focus and customers can expect to see lots of choices from local farms. “The familiar departments that our customers know and love will all be here, with a little added “flair”,” according to Stephen Adams. For example, the meat department will feature a large butcher block table in customer view for shoppers to order custom meat cuts.
The new Wappinger location incorporates feedback and input from store and department managers from each of Adams existing locations. Utilizing best practices and lessons learned from the other sites, the new Wappinger location is expected to have an improved customer flow as well as a larger prepared food section than found in other locations. Prepared foods is still a relatively new category for Adams, and the new store will capitalize on the category’s growing popularity with both hot and cold choices featuring many local ingredients. A seating area will be available for customers to stop and enjoy a bite.
