The Tea Party is bigger than the South

And it's important to remember that the whole North/South breakdown of the Civil War is far too simplistic. There were many northern traitors/Confederate sympathizers called Copperheads, while more southern white people than is commonly remembered took a Union stand.

I believe that they were called renegades, but I'm not sure.

Meanwhile, millions of Southerners with dark skins took an unqualified Union stand.

Have you been here? I've lived here my whole life; my town is extraordinarily liberal. Those saying that Kilgore is wrong are not doing much to defend their claims, "Absolute BS ! ! !," "You are full of crap," "Southern culture with it's fake piety and open racism has poisoned this country."

I've spent a good bit of time in the midwest and the middle east coast states, and frankly, I've seen far more racism there than I have in the South. I'm sure it would be different if I lived in one of those states next to the gulf of Mexico, but the bottom line is that non-Southern Americans have absolutely no right to feel so great about themselves compared to us inbred, racist hicks; you have your own crazy radical racist conservatives too, and the jury is out on who has more.

The tea party is more complex then the idiot bigots who truly believe all southerners are bible thumping, confederate flag waving, black people lynching, don't know how to read or count to 10 red-necks with crew-cuts and old pick-up trucks.

Kind of the flip side of the other bigots who believe all liberals are welfare mothers, gay, baby killing, elitest in their own mind, atheist, hippie, lazy, government tit-sucking weasles.

The tea party is bigger than the south and if liberals could look past their partisanship long enough there are a number of issues they align with the tea party on. Waging useless fukked up wars just being one.

You people put so much energy into demonizing a group of people who simply want to limit government--people whose limited-government rhetoric is so similar to ideals expressed by Mahatma Ghandi, Walt Whitman, Aristotle, our founding fathers, and "all thinking people," as H.L. Mencken said. People who understand that there are many dangers associated with increasing centralized power, who know that tyrrants always rise to power promising the masses: "Give me a little more power (over them, the rich), and I'll take care of you."
