Kingsburg resident is president of 'Star Trek' fan club
Rushing home after school to watch re-runs of "Star Trek" is a vivid memory for Kingsburg resident Chrissy Killian. And while some hardcore "Star Trek" fans bristle at the notion William Shatner's Capt. James T. Kirk is the definitive leader, Killian has room in her Vulcan heart for Capt. Jean-Luc Picard. "Patrick Stewart made the role his own," she says. Killian, 50, has more than a passing interest in all things "Star Trek." She is commanding officer (president) of USS Peacekeeper, a "Star Trek" fan club. Peacekeepers are part of the world's largest "Star Trek" fan named Starfleet with about 4,000 members. Killian is regional coordinator for California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii (18 chapters). Contact with other members, about 300, is through emails. Of course, the biggest event among "Star Trek" fans is attending its conventions. This year's convention will be held Aug. 11-14 in Las Vegas. The 45th anniversary of the original TV series has William Shatner and Patrick Stewart scheduled to appear together on stage. Activities will include Lunch with the Klingons and an attempt at the world record for "most 'Star Trek' costumes in one place."Kingsburgrecorder.com encourages readers to engage in civil conversation with their neighbors.
