AUM adds to softball signing class

The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team and head coach Chris Wilcoxson have announced the signing of Laci Driggers to scholarship papers for the 2011-12 season. 

Driggers, whose sister Shea is a rising senior for the Lady Senators, is a utility player who spent the past season at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala. During her freshman season with the Lady Lions, she played second base, shortstop and in the outfield.

"I am excited about the addition of Laci Driggers to our program," Wilcoxson said of the addition of Driggers. "She is a very versatile player, who will be able to help us both on the infield and in the outfield. She is also brings a lot of speed to our team, an element that will help us."

In her lone season at Wallace State, Driggers helped the Lady Lions to a 52-14 overall record, including a 19-1 mark in the Alabama Community College Conference North division. Driggers posted a .267 batting average in 23 games, scoring 15 runs and driving in 11 more. She added three doubles and a home run, while stealing three bases.

Driggers joined the college ranks following a standout prep career at Leeds High School in Leeds, Ala. A six-year starter for the Green Wave, she was a five-time all-state selection by the Alabama Sports Writers Association and a three-time all-county honoree. She also was named to the Birmingham All-Metro team as a senior. Driggers was also selected for the Alabama High School Athletic Association North-South All Star game a helped Leeds to the AHSAA Class 3A State Championship in 2007.

During her tenure with the Green Wave, Driggers was a dual-threat player, finding success both in the circle and at the plate. As a senior, she posted a .424 batting average with 18 doubles, two triples and three home runs, while driving in 54 runs. She also added a 13-8 record as a pitcher and struck out 129 batters. As a junior, she recorded a .455 batting average with 15 doubles and a 17-5 mark in the circle.

Driggers joins Amie Kelly (OF/Daphne, Ala./Spanish Fort HS), Katie Spain (2B/Whittier, Calif./LaSerna HS), Kaira Robison (P/Orange Park, Fla./Fleming Island HS), Brandi Hughes (P/Rockmart, Ga./Rockmart HS), Cassie Daniels (P/Plantersville, Ala./Dallas County HS), Jenna Molina (UTIL/Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta HS), Holly Saint (C/Wetumpka, Ala./Central Alabama CC), Sarah Suggs (1B/Huntsville, Ala./Sparkman HS) and Ainsley Faulk (UTIL/Centersville, Ga./Woodland HS) as future Lady Senators to sign with the program.

Richland receives grant to train health IT ... - Richland College

The Dallas County Community College District has received a grant to train health care workers and information technology professionals in the implementation and support of electronic medical records. As the lead college, Richland College is offering an intensive online continuing education program to provide training in six various health care IT workforce fields. This program is designed for self-motivated, experienced health care and IT professionals and can be completed in less than six months. The classes are $25 each and held through April 2012. Those interested should apply before October 1, 2011.

Upon completion of the program, graduates are expected to take the HIT-PRO national competency exam developed by the American Health Information Management Association.

A health IT professional is someone who is qualified to: support the adoption and implementation of electronic health records (EHRs); exchange information between health care providers and public health authorities; and redesign workflows within health care settings to gain the quality and efficiency benefits of EHRs. By 2015, health care practitioners will be required to have EHR capability.
