Schererville Park Foundation raises funds for facilities
Well-equipped and maintained parks and open spaces create an excellent quality of life in communities. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the facilities at the Schererville parks and nature sites.
In addition to the hard-working staff of the Schererville Parks & Recreation Department, the Schererville Parks Foundation is a partner in these efforts.
The Parks Foundation is a not-for-profit fundraising organization with the goal of augmenting and promoting the growth of parks and green spaces throughout the Town of Schererville. This foundation advocates the preservation of open spaces within the community and looks to enhance lifestyles through various projects.
These projects include the creation of the Perry Ferrini Dog Park on West 91st Avenue and Mathews Street; the restoration of the historic Hilbrich Log Cabin and development of the Richard Teibel Nature Preserve on an 81-acre parcel near Eagle Ridge and Deer Creek. The area will be considered a passive park, with walking paths and areas to observe nature.
The foundation is chartered by the Town of Schererville. All foundation directors are volunteers and are appointed to staggered terms by the Schererville Town Council.
Current board members include Bob Vercel, president; Ron Kovach, vice president; Richard Young, treasurer; Darlene Bouma, secretary; Dave Richards; Mark Sandifer; and Janet Wozniak. In addition, the board includes Sharon Moore, Town Council liaison; Robert Volkmann, Schererville town manager; John Novacich, park superintendent; and Michael Jasaitis, attorney.
The Parks Foundation is a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) organization and a 509 (a)(3) supporting organization. All donations to the Parks Foundation are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
The Parks Foundation will continue to solicit property and financial donations for future green spaces within the town. For more information or to make a donation to the Schererville Parks Foundation, visit the organization's Web site at www.scherervilleparksfoundation.org .
