SLAs are hollow and standards that protect users are virtually non-existent. All the more reason that corporate IT needs to put its own FUD behind it and get with the program. Cloud adoption is unstoppable, but it must be part of the greater IT/business strategy. IT should take the lead role. It’s no more appropriate for non-IT departments to contract for cloud services than it is to contract for their own legal or accounting services. Before long, some of the company’s data will be in one cloud, and other data in another, and neither is compatible. Having a department of NO will be only one of the pressing IT issues. There will always be concerns about security and where data resides in your environment but these concerns have troubled Corporate IT throughout the last 30 years. Corporate IT has been under-funded and under-supported for a long time and they live in the belief that (their) knowledge is power.
