Driver of truck charged in wreck with ambulance
A charge of failure to yield the right of way was lodged against an Alton man Saturday after the pickup he was driving struck a Halifax County-South Boston Rescue Squad ambulance at the Hamilton Boulevard entrance to Hupps Mill Shopping Center. Sgt. G.M. Gilliam reported the accident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. when a 1996 Ford F150 pickup operated by 63-year-old Elbert Conner of Alton struck a 2000 Ford F350 heavy duty ambulance operated by 55-year-old James Payne of South Boston, as the pickup was attempting to exit the shopping center.

Trevor Marquez, age 41 had crashed his red Ford F150 pickup into a parked Honda. Inside the truck was a crack pipe. Marquez was arrested for DUI, being under the influence of narcotics, possession of the crack-pipe, no insurance, and parole violation.
