Fishing Reels | Abu Garcia Fans: 5500CL3 and 6500C3 OK for salt?
Those aren't bad reels but you really, really need to keep them clean. I'd recommend dismantling them after every trip. Pay particular attention to the anti-reverse bearing -- clean and use a q-tip to apply a thin coat of Corrosion-X after every trip. I'd also upgrade to Carbontex drag washers if they don't already have carbon fiber washers (some new ones do but older ones do not). Keep some oil under the free spool button and don't lt salt build up.
