This year, Youth Ventures is giving you that opportunity with a 30-second video contest!
The goal of Youth Ventures is to help youth, aged 12-29, start-up and run their own businesses. Being an entrepreneur can be an exciting and rewarding experience for those willing to give it a shot. That said, you don’t have to be an entrepreneur to enter a video into the ‘I Inspire 2011’ video contest.
To enter the contest, you simply have to make a 30-second video, telling us one of the following:
- “I would be an awesome boss because…”
- “Running my own business would be great because…”
- “Entrepreneurs help their communities by…”
Don’t have an awesome video camera? No problem! You can record your video on anything, even your cell phone camera! Then, all you have to do is upload it to the provincial Youth Ventures Facebook page and email me your information.
Each region will select a winner who receives an iPod Shuffle and those videos will be entered into selection for the provincial award for an iPad. The deadline to submit is June 22, so get your videos in today!
BLOOMING COMMUNITIES
On June 8 and 9, I travelled around the Burin Peninsula, along with Service Canada’s youth services officers Brittany Lambe and Curtis Pittman, planting flowers in the communities that proudly support our programs.
Rogers Farm in Marystown donated the flowers, which were perennials, meaning they return every year, a good reflection of our continued presence and service to the Burin Peninsula.
I’d like to thank the business for their kind donation to this project.

In recent Geo-Strata magazines published by the ASCE's Geo-Institute, there is a new recurring feature called 'Geo-Legends' where a student interviews a well known person in the field of geotechnical engineering. The second in the series was written on T. William Lambe, among many other things, he was the co-author of two books with Bob Witman, Soil Testing and Soil Mechanics.
